Yes, our items are second-handed, yes, they are fashionable and yes, we offer a wide selection of them. But have you ever wondered where does this selection come from?

Where: The Sorting Centre

The story begins in UAB Humana LT sorting centre. Humana LT owner is Humana People to People Baltic which in turn is a part the Federation Humana People to People (The Federation for Associations connected to the International Humana People to People Movement).  Humana in Lithuania was created in 1998 and aimed at establishing second-hand clothing stores which donated their profits to sustainable development projects in emerging countries (the projects are led by Humana People to People Federation).

The sorting centre is located a bit out of town and holds more than 14 thousand square meters. It a big facility with a capacity to source 200 tons of clothing everyday. Currently, approximately 450 of workers are employed in the sorting facilities and source 160 tons of clothing a day.

The clothing is bought and brought to the centre from European second-hand clothing collectors. Then they undergo a sorting procedure.

How: The Procedure

During the initial stages received items are unpacked and sorted out according to the types. Interesting and unexpected items can come up like pans, duvets, books or toys. All of these are later distributed further, while all the leftover plastic and paper is recycled. Only 4,8% in 2022 and 6,5% in 2023 of received items are not recycled in one way or another and burned for energy.

After initial sorting the items follow a secondary sorting procedure which finally distributes clothing that is suitable for selling and will be handed over either to Humana stores in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary and Think2 in Belgium, Germany and Think2.eu online shop. The clothing that has not been selected for stores is resold and handed over to other buyers worldwide. To bring more items to life they are cleaned and washed before being sent out to stores. The washing process uses energy efficient washing machines and environmentally safe and neutral washing detergents. The generated heat during the washing process is used for drying out wet sneakers and other kinds of shoes. This is not the only ecological solution, others like 1MW power solar panels on the roof of the center are implemented as well. As to this day, solar panels cover almost 60% of energy costs while in the summer they are covered fully.

What’s next: Think2.eu

Some of the better-quality garments and more well-known brands are selected for Think2.eu online store and as they arrive to e-shop facilities where we have additional steps to make more accessible for the buyer. First, they are thoroughly investigated for damage and flaws, then all the measurement and properties descriptions are prepared to be uploaded online. Lastly, our photographers capture the garments in our studio and pictures are uploaded to the website.
